This has been a great race for the Johnston yard over the years with 7 winners in the last 16, so a small saver on their outsiders Killybegs Warrior and Knockbrex wouldn’t be the worst shout in the world.

However, the Charlie Appleby team won this race last year and they look to have a great chance of doing so again. They run Local Dynasty and Tagabawa, but it’s the last-named of that pair that stands out after a fair 6th in the King George V Stakes last time at Royal Ascot.

The drop back to 1m2f looks a plus too for this Godolphin runner and this 3 year-old gets in here off the same mark as that recent run.

Just three of the 5 runners look to have a chance here with Star Mystery, another for Godolphin, looking the one to beat.

She’s won two of her three starts to date – including a 4-length romp here on the July course at the start of the month in a Listed event. Prior to that she won by 11 lengths at Haydock and despite this being another step up is fast making a name for herself.

She’s expected to continue her upward curve here at the expense of Albany Stakes fourth Persian Dreamer expected to follow the Godolpin horse home.

On what could be a very ‘Blue Day’ at Newmarket it’s Godolphin again as their Live Your Dream is another of their runners that holds a big chance. This 6 year-old gelding has won 4 of his 12 career starts and only been out of the top three twice – plus won this race in 2021 too.

A recent third in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot was another solid run but the step up from 1m4f to 1m6f looks the key having been second in the Cesarewitch Handicap last season.

Themaxwecan is respected at a big price from the Johnston camp that have won 3 of the last 4, plus Aimeric, who was only beaten 4 lengths in the already mentioned Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes, won’t be far away either.

3:35 – Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m ITV

The big Group One on the day is for the fillies and all eyes will be on recent Pretty Polly Stakes winner Via Sistina (5 year-old), but the recent trends tell us he’s got a big age stat to overcome with just 42 of the last 44 winners aged 3 or 4 years-old.

She’s also stepping back in trip here to a mile, which I’m not sure will totally suit. She can run well but might just be staying when it’s too late – we’ll see.

The Ralph Beckett yard run last year’s winner Prosperous Voyage, who will be looking to become the first back-to-back winner since Soviet Song (2004 & 2005), but it’s their other runner Remarquee that catches the eye.

This lightly-raced 3 year-old Kingman filly was snapped up by Wathnan Racing after a fine second in the Coronation Stakes last time out – beaten just a length by the classy Tahiyra. She’s only had 4 runs, so should have more to come and last year’s winning jockey Rob Hornby gets the leg-up.

2022 Nassau Stakes winner Nashwa is another to note, while the improving Sandringham Stakes winner Coppice is another of interest after winning 3 of her 4 starts and her only blot coming in softer ground back in April.
