Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 Tips On Day Five, Saturday 5th August 2023

The first selection in our Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 tips on Saturday is MUSIC SOCIETY. Tim Easterby’s gelding was fourth in this race back in 2021 on soft ground. He has ran some good races so far this season, and while disappointing last week at Ascot, he can be forgiven for that due to the dryer conditions on the day. The going is in his favour, and David Allan can give this eight-year-old a strong chance. An interesting fact ahead of this contest is that nine of the last 19 winners won after less than a week’s break. Music Society ran at Ascot last Saturday, finishing 10th of 15, and is the sort to bounce back.
2:25 – Coral Summer Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+) 1m6f ITV: Sweet William @ 9/4
Our second pick is SWEET WILLIAM. John and Thady Gosden’s gelding boasts a fine record, having never finished outside of the places in his five-race career up to this point. He finished runner up on his first three starts, and returned to the track in July with two wins on the bounce after a three month lay-off. Rob Havlin also remains in the saddle having partnered him in all of his five races so far. He won 2m handicap at Newbury last month with plenty in hand, and can be just as useful back down in trip for this one. The Gosdens also won this last year and with conditions set to suit, Sweet William can make it back-to-back wins in the race for a top yard.
3:00 – Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+) 1m6f ITV: Free Wind @ 10/11
The third selection in our Lucky 15 is the John and Thady Gosden-trained FREE WIND. She was disappointing when beaten last time out in the Hardwicke at Ascot, but that ground may have been too quick for her liking. Her dam was a mud lover, so with the forecast rain on the day, she has a lot in favour. Winning the Middleton Stakes at York in the run prior to the Ascot disaster was impressive, and going back down in trip should help. She’s a talented mare, and bar her last outing has improved with every race, so is the one to get by for us.
3:35 – Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+) 6f ITV: Orazio @ 3/1
The final selection in our Saturday Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 tips is ORAZIO. Charles Hills’ lightly races four-year-old was beat last time in the Wokingham, but the ground likely wasn’t suited, but with a slower surfacer on the cards here, he can get back to winning ways. He was impressive when landing handicaps at Newmarket and Ascot in the spring, and with Jim Crowley taking the reins, he heightens interest. Orazio completes our Lucky 15, so play along if you’re feeling “lucky”!
