Cristiano Ronaldo Among List Of Players Involved in Juventus Scandal

Juventus’ current financial issues lost them 15 points in the Serie A, yet the problems caused do not end there. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of over 20 players who face a ban after reports in Italy claim they were paid €90m in deferred wages off book.

The Italian football federation began an investigation in 2021 where they looked into over 6o different player transactions between 2018 and 2020. After allegations were made, suggesting that valuations had been tinkered with in order to evade Financial Fair Play rules

Last Friday, the Italian giants were docked 15 points in Serie A after a substantial amount of evidence was found, making them guilty of numerous accounting breaches. The club are now filing an appeal with the Italian Olympic Committee.

The Portuguese forward, who joined the Old Lady back in 2018, was involved in the scandal after documents revealed he was owed £17.2m in salary after agreeing to a four-month deferral during the 2019/20 season. The five-time Balon D’or winner has faced a fair few problems this season, leaving him 200/1 to add a sixth Balon D’or to his name, according to UK betting sites.

Other star players that are involved in this controversy include, Miralem Pjanic, who was owed £5.1m, Aaron Ramsey was owed £4.2m and French international Adrien Rabiot deferred £5m in wages. With former head coach Maurizio Sarri, and  recently departed Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala, also facing a ban.

The club will have to wait till March for their fate, with the players guilty facing a 30-day ban, which is only applicable while playing in Italy. Meaning the ban won’t impact Ronaldo’s latest move to Saudi Arabia, one that made him the highest paid player in the world,
