2023 Cheltenham Festival Bankers or Blowouts on Day Two: Weds 15th March
There are more Cheltenham Festival bankers on day two – Wednesday 15th March, with many of these horses below expected to be plonked in doubles, trebles and accas on the day. However, which horses have the best chance of winning and which runners can be taken on?
1.30: Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle ITV4 – IMPAIRE ET PASSE @ 13/8
This Willie Mullins Cheltenham runner will be the horse favourite backers will be hoping to get off to a flying start with. Impaire Et Passe is yet to taste defeat (3 runs) and was impressive last time when winning at Punchestown. His running style suggests this step up in trip will suit, while it’s a race the Mullins yard has won three times since 2014. VERDICT: BANKER
2.10: Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase ITV1 – GERRI COLOMBE @ 6/4
Gerri Colombe has caught the eye of many after winning all seven career runs – including his last three over fences. The latest of those came in the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown last month, having stayed on well over 2m4f. He’s a horse that looks better the further they travel too. So this extra yardage (3m 1/2f) should be right up his street and looks one of the main Gordon Elliott Cheltenham runners this year. VERDICT: BANKER

3.30: Queen Mother Champion Chase ITV1 – ENERGUMENE @ 2/1
Last year’s Champion Chase winner Energumene will be trying to follow in the likes of Altior, Sprinter Sacre and Master Minded as two-time winners of this race. However, there’s a chance he might not even go off favourite for this – with Edwardstone challenging him in the betting. Energumene was also put in his place by Editeur Du Gite and Edwardstone in the Clarence House Chase last time, so needs to bounce back. If we add in that 7 of the last 12 Arkle winners went onto follow-up in this race 12 months later, then there are several things to take on the Mullins horse with. VERDICT: BLOWOUT
4.10: Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase ITV1 – DELTA WORK @ 11/10
Another past champion on show as this Gordon Elliott runner landed the Cross-Country last year. Delta Work broke the hearts of Tiger Roll backers that day and having since run third in the Grand National loves this style of fences. Third here over the track in January but was giving weight way that day. Back on level weights it’s hard to see the current champ not having a big say again here. The classy Galvin will be his biggest threat, but his lack of experience of this course is the unknown. VERDICT: BANKER
