Champ Odds For Long Walk Hurdle 2023 at Ascot

In 2021 the JP McManus-owned CHAMP, who is named after former jockey AP McCoy, won the 2021 Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot (watch below) and he’s back for more this Saturday.

This Nicky Henderson-trained staying hurdler has not been seen since running fifth in the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree at their Grand National Meeting last season. So will need to win this Ascot race off a 252-day break.

However, he’s got a fair record fresh and won the Long Distance Hurdle first time out last season and when winning this two years ago it was also his first time on the track for 274-days.

Jockey Jonjo O’Neill has built-up a good partnership with the elder statesman – winning twice on him, including in this race in 2021.

At the age of 11, Champ will also be looking to become the oldest Long Walk Hurdle winner since the race grabbed it’s Grade 1 status in 1971.

Old rival, Paisley Park, who is a three-time winner of the Long Walk Hurdle, and another old-timer in the race at 11 and over the years we’ve had some epic clashes between the pair. Could we see another this Saturday?
