The horse racing calendar this week in the UK and Ireland gives us plenty to look forward to. We give you the seven-day horse racing fixtures and highlights from Monday 27th November to Sunday 3rd December 2023. With two of the big races the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury and the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, which includes the return of Constitution Hill, at Newcastle – both on Saturday.
Horse Racing Calendar This Week (27th Nov-3rd Dec 2023): Coral Gold Cup & Fighting Fifth Hurdle Headline
It’s jumping all the way this week, as expected at this time of the year, and after the weekend poor runs of the Cheltenham Gold Cup first and second – Galopin Des Champs and Bravemansgame – horse racing fans were left scratching their heads in terms of the big staying Grade One races, including the Boxing Day King George VI Chase at Kempton.
This week more clues will be on show with the staying hurdlers out in Friday’s Long Walk Hurdle at Newbury and it’s the Nicky Henderson mare Marie’s Rock currently topping the betting.
Monbeg Genuis Fancied For Newbury Coral Gold Cup On Saturday
We’ve also the Coral Gold Cup – or the old Hennessy Gold Cup – at Newbury on Saturday in what looks a super competitive renewal. At this stage the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Monbeg Genius is one of those at the head of the market with the best UK horse racing betting sites as the yard look to follow up their 2020 win in the race.
However, the big news this week will be the return of the current Champion Hurdler – Constitution Hill – who will be trying to win Saturday’s Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle for a second year in-a-row. He’s currently as short a 1/6 with the race sponsors BetMGM so will be fully expected to win again and make it 8-from-8 over hurdles.
He’ll then be heading to the Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day at Kempton and then his Champion Hurdle title defence – the same route he took to the Cheltenham Festival last year. Constitution Hill is 1/2 with the best online betting sites to win the 2024 Champion Hurdle again.
On Sunday the top jumping baton is handed to Fairyhouse in Ireland as they’ve three Grade One races on their card that include the Hatton’s Grace, with Impaire Et Passe, Drinmore Novices Chase and Royal Bond Novices Hurdle – a race Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott have won eight times in the last nine years between them.
