This Will Be the First Time Frankie Has Ridden Courage Mon Ami In A Race
You also have to feel a bit for jockey Robert Havlin as he’s been in the saddle on ALL three of Courage Mon Ami’s races to date. But the veteran jockey is making way for another older stateman here. Frankie, is sure to have ridden the horse at home though and in work, so won’t be a total stranger to him.
Havlin doesn’t have a ride in the Gold Cup 2023 as a result.

In total, Frankie Dettori has won the Ascot Gold Cup an incredible 8 TIMES, with only Lester Piggott (11 wins) having more successes in the race in the modern era.
Dettori’s first Ascot Gold Cup wins came in 1992 and 1993 on a horse called Drum Taps and he added a third in 2000 with Godolphin’s top stayer Kayf Tara. More Godolphin success followed with Papineau (2004) and Colour Vision (2012), which then led to the three Stradivarius wins in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
