In the latest Manchester City transfer news, Pep Guardiola’s side are reportedly close to finalising a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly close to completing the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.

Football Insider claim that City’s move for the Croatian midfielder is “99% done” and that Chelsea are prepared for his exit.

Kovacic still has a year remaining on his current contract with the Blues. However, he is now said to have decided on a switch to play under Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola had initially looked to sign Jude Bellingham this summer, but will likely have to settle for Kovacic as the English youngster nears a move to Real Madrid.

Chelsea are said to have placed a £30-£40million price tag on Kovacic as they look to offload assets in the summer.

The Stamford Bridge side are desperately needing to reduce the size of their squad, and will need to raise funds in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

29-year-old Kovacic has enjoyed a five-year spell with the Blues, having initially joining the club on loan.

Since joining from Real Madrid, he has won the Champions League, the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

A notable omission there is the Premier League title, something he would be far more likely of winning with Manchester City.

It has been a very poor season for the Blues this term, but Kovacic’s prowess in midfield has still been clear to see.

The midfielder has made 37 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions – scoring twice, and assisting twice.
