The Open Tee Times – Saturday, Day 3
Heading into The 151st Open Championship third round, there are so many narratives that could play out across the three remaining days of golf at Hoylake. Not only that, but there are still so many players in with a chance of being victorious come Sunday afternoon. None more so than last week’s Scottish Open winner and four-time major champion, Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy was the pre-tournament favourite with the best golf betting sites, but has work to do if he is to go on to claim a second Claret Jug and first major championship in over nine years. After a strong -5 opening round, Merseyside native Tommy Fleetwood is also now in contention for the lead. His odds with the best sports betting apps have been slashed after his opening day 66 and he current sits in second behind Brian Harman.
Harman has a sensational 65 on Friday, giving himself a six shot lead heading into today’s round on Saturday. Harman has never won a major before, but looks to have a great chance now with a six shot lead and huge advantage over his golfing rivals.
Some big names such as Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele and last year’s winner Cameron Smith just about made the cut. They are 12/13 shots behind Harman and will need a huge round on Saturday if they are to get themselves back in contention.
Fowler tees off in the first group of the morning at 8:55am, with Scheffler at 9:05am and Koepka at 9:15am. DeChambeau and Schauffele are one of the featured groups on Day 3 and they begin their third rounds at 10:20am. Last year’s winner Cameron Smith has been paired with last year’s US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick (10:30am).
Rory McIlroy is nine shots off the lead at -1, and he tees off at 2:25pm for his Saturday round. He has been paired with American star Max Homa. Both of these men will be looking for big rounds today on ‘moving day’. Jordan Spieth looks to get back in the major hunt for the first time in a few years, and begins his third round at 2:45pm.
US Open champion Wyndham Clark tees off at 1:55pm, with former world number one and major champion Jason Day well in contention at -3 par. He tees off his third round at 3:10pm. The final group of Tommy Fleetwood and Brian Harman tee off at 3:30pm.
