Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been locked in the Man Utd takeover battle for over 10 months. He’s now considering taking a minority share, leaving the Glazers in charge.

The Man Utd takeover saga has dwindled on in the background of Old Trafford for nearly a year now. It looked like Man Utd fans finally had the Glazers out, but a new twist may keep them there longer.

Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim of Qatar have been the main two bidders during the takeover talks. The latter seemed to be set to takeover, but hesitation from the Glazers has stalled that.

While the Qatari is still keen on taking over 100% of the club. Ratcliffe is set to attempt to take a 25% minority of the club, which will leave the Glazers as the majority holder. This latest update provides another twist in the Man Utd takeover saga.

That share would cost Ratcliffe a reported £1.5 billion, some way off the £6 billion the Glazers want for 100% of the club.

The Glazers paid £800m for the club back in 2005. Since then the club have racked up a large amount of debt. Also, their stadium and training ground are in dire need of a revamp, or even a rebuild.

The £1.5 billion won’t cover all that, but it’ll be a good start point for the club, while also giving Ratcliffe leverage for a full Man Utd takeover in the future.
