The ITV Racing Cameras Are at The Esher Track For Five Races

The ITV horse racing cameras are there to take in five races – with the first live contest set to go off at 1:10pm, while the days feature event is the Grade One Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at 2:20pm – a prize the classy L’Homme Presse won 12 months ago.

Sandown Horse Racing Tip and Trends: Saturday 4th February 2023

1.10 – Virgin Bet Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-125) 2m4f ITV

  • 7/7 – Carried 11st 4lbs or more
  • 7/7 – Won between 0-1 times before
  • 7/7 – Ran in the last 8 weeks
  • 7/7 – Returned 7/1 or shorter in the betting
  • 6/7 – Didn’t win last time out
  • 6/7 – Placed favourites
  • 6/7 – Aged 5 or 6 years-old
  • 4/7 – Irish bred
  • 2/7 – Winning favourite

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 SANDOWN TIPS: TWINJETS looks worth sticking with after two nice wins at Leicester and Plumpton, albeit upped in grade here. This Milton Harris runner has done it well both times and despite having a lot of weight (12st) to carry looks a horse that could easily progress out of handicap company. Twin Power, for Paul Nicholls and recent Wincanton scorer I Shut That D’Or can do best of the rest.

  • TWINJETS
  • TWIN POWER
  • I SHUT THAT D’OR

1.45 – Virgin Bet Dolos Handicap Chase Cl2 1m7f119y ITV

  • 16/16 – Priced 10/1 or shorter
  • 16/16 – Raced within the last 8 weeks
  • 13/16 – Had won between 1-4 times over fences before
  • 13/16 – Aged 9 or younger
  • 12/16 – Finished in the top 3 last time out
  • 11/16 – Raced within the last 4 weeks
  • 11/16 – Winning distance – 2 lengths or more
  • 10/16 – Had run over fences at Sandown before (4 won)
  • Dolos won the race in 2019, 2020, 2022 and second in 2021

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 SANDOWN TIPS: DOLOS has won this race three times in the last four years and the only time he didn’t win it, he came a close second. As a reward he’s now actually got this race named after him this year and will be a popular pick to win it for a fourth time. This Nicholls runner is now a 10 year-old and even though he’s not won a race since taking this 12 months ago is only 3lbs higher and would have had this as his main target all season again. Frero Banbou was runner-up last year and can give the selection most to think about again, with course winner Red Rookie expected to be better his last run at Chepstow which came off a break.

  • DOLOS
  • FRERO BANBOU
  • RED ROOKIE

2.20 – Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices´ Chase (Grade 1) Cl1 2m4f110y ITV

  • 19/19 – Finished in the top 3 last time out
  • 18/19 – Came from the top 3 in the betting
  • 18/19 – Won no more than 3 times over fences before
  • 17/19 – Raced within the last 6 weeks
  • 17/19 – Priced 9/2 or shorter in the betting
  • 17/19 – Finished in the top 2 last time out
  • 17/19 – Aged 7 or younger
  • 16/19 – Won between 1-3 times over fences before
  • 11/19 – Winning favourites
  • 5/19 – Trained by Nicky Henderson
  • 4/19 – Trained by Paul Nicholls

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 SANDOWN TIPS: The Henderson and Nicholls yard have fair records in this race so their Balco Coastal and Monmiral enter calculations, but there’s a rare runner for the Gordon Elliott yard in the race as they send over GERRI COLOMBE and the hint should be taken. This exciting 7 year-old is the clear top-rated in the field of seven and has can gone into many a notebook after two nice wins over fences at Fairyhouse and Limerick. He’s then got entries in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival – a race last year’s winner of this L’Homme Presse followed up in.

  • GERRI COMBE
  • MONMIRAL
  • BALCO COASTAL

2.55 Virgin Bet Heroes Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m7 1/2f ITV

  • 7/7 – Ran in the last 6 weeks
  • 6/7 – Didn’t win last time out
  • 6/7 – Won between 2-4 times
  • 6/7 – Returned between 5/1 and 10/1 in the betting
  • 6/7 – Aged 8 or younger
  • 6/7 – Carried 10-10 or less in weight
  • 5/7 – Unplaced favourites
  • 5/7 – Rated between 129-134
  • 4/7 – Ran at Kempton last time out
  • 1/7 – Winning favourites

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 SANDOWN TIPS: Super competitive renewal here of this handicap hurdle, but with 6 of the last 7 winners not winning last time out and aged 8 or younger a chance is taken on the Paul Nicholls runner JET OF MAGIC – who fits both of these stats. This 7 year-old was a fair second last time at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day and having just run out of steam in the closing stages that day, the drop back slightly in trip will suit. Green Book won this race last year and can go well too off just a 4lb higher mark, while another that ticks the main three trends is Bells Of Peterboro and could go well at a nice price.

  • JET OF MAGIC (e/w)
  • GREEN BOOK
  • BELLS OF PETERBORO

3.30 – Virgin Bet Masters Handicap Chase Cl2 3m110y ITV

  • 17/19 – Carried 11-6 or less
  • 17/19 – Had raced within the last 8 weeks
  • 16/19 – Had won over at least 3m (fences) before
  • 16/19 – Aged 9 or younger
  • 14/19 – Had won between 1-3 times over fences (UK) before
  • 14/19 – Rated 139 or lower
  • 11/19 – Irish-bred
  • 11/19 – Placed last time out
  • 10/19 – Had raced at Sandown before (5 won)
  • 10/19 – Came from outside the top 3 in the betting
  • 6/19 – Winning favourites
  • 2/19 – Trained by Venetia Williams (2 of last 9)
  • Trained by Philip Hobbs (2 of the last 3)

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 SANDOWN TIPS: The Venetia Williams yard have won two of the last 9 runnings of this tricky final ITV race and look to have another fair chance with LASKALIN. This 8 year-old won well at Ludlow two races but failed to last out the longer trip of 3m 2f last time at Newbury. Back in trip here and with a month to recover can be given another chance. The Philip Hobbs camp are another that like to target this prize – winning it twice in the last three years – so their Celebre D’Allen is worth a saver too. While at a big price the Gary Moore runner Movethechains is interesting having not stayed in the Welsh National last time and after around 10 months off can be expected to be better for it.

  • LASKALIN (e/w)
  • CELEBRE D’ALLEN
  • MOVETHECHAINS
