WINTER REPRISE (system – top four from the front at Newcastle)
It’s desperately difficult to make all over trips of 1m2f or further on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface and horses who run well – defined as finishing in the top four – when attempting to do so often make good bets next time out. WINTER REPRISE did well to finish under forcing tactics at Newcastle in June 2022 on his latest domestic outing (he subsequently ran well in a Listed contest at Strasbourg) and can make a winning stable/hurdles debut for Alan King.
AYR 3.05
BALLYCOOSE (system – Ayr chases, won another Ayr chase last time out)
Course form is extremely important over fences at Ayr and simply backing last-time-out Ayr chase winners, who were bidding to follow up in a similar race, would have found 28 winners from 83 bets (33.7% strike-rate) since the beginning of 2010 for a profit of £43.99 to a £1 level stake at SP. BALLYCOOSE made all over 2m4.5f on heavy ground here last time to take his course record to 14321 (2-5) and the cut back to 2m is unlikely to inconvenience him.
AYR 4.10
I AM MAX (system – Sandy Thomson, winter runners)
Since the beginning of 2012, trainer Sandy Thomson has a fantastic record in the depths of winter (beginning of November until the end of February), scoring with 129 of his 713 runners (18.11% strike-rate) for a profit of £221.02 to a £1 level stake at SP. I AM MAX was backed from 16-1 into 5-2 favouritism when landing a bumper at Carlisle earlier this month and can follow up.
