Premier League matchday goers will know all too well the struggles of endless queuing for pre-match and half-time refreshments, but thirsty patrons will be pleased to hear teams across the league are adopting self-pouring beer stations.

Self-service beer machines sound like a football fan’s pipe dream, but they have started being installed across the country with Fulham’s Craven Cottage, Aston Villa’s Villa Park and Brighton’s Amex Stadium all offering the opportunity to self-pour and avoid the queues.

The installations are courtesy of EBar, who’s machines are fully customisable to any beer brand, and can dispense two beers in under 30 seconds once customers have paid using a contactless card.

Better yet, promising reports of relatively affordable drinks have flooded in with £4.50 pints at Craven Cottage, which is great value considering an average pint in London stands at around £4.84.

However, there is a slight catch. The ‘early bird’ pricing for the machines is £4.50 for a pint of beer which is set right up until half an hour before kick off, and then anything after that the price soars to £6.80.

One Brighton fan said after their 3-0 win over Liverpool: “It worked really well, each station can do two pints. Member of staff handing out empty glasses. Never more than one or two people in front of you.

“Shame it doesn’t dispense pies.”

Despite the fluctuating pricing throughout match days, this latest beverage tech will almost certainly help to cut down on sizeable queues experienced at football matches, particularly where food and drink are typically found on the same kiosk.

After infiltrating major football grounds, the company announced they will hope to fill other stadia and events in 2023 with race meetings at Newbury and Cheltenham already confirmed to be utilising EBar machines this year.
