South Wales-based Newport County welcome Premier League giants Manchester United to Rodney Parade on Sunday afternoon, as the pair go head-to-head in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Exiles have an impressive CV in causing upsets in cup competitions, beating the likes of Brighton, Leeds, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Swansea, Watford and Luton in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup since 2013, and even drew 1-1 against Tottenham in the fourth round back in 2018.
Graham Coughlan’s side will be desperate to add the Red Devils to that list, and they come into the tie off the back of an impressive seven game unbeaten streak – most recently beating League Two title chasers Wrexham.
Newport booked their spot in the fourth round thanks to a 3-1 replay win over Eastleigh after drawing the first meeting 1-1, meanwhile Manchester United comfortably beat League One side Wigan 2-0.
Erik ten Hag‘s side have been in poor form since the start of December, winning just three of their last 10 matches. Defeats to Bournemouth, Newcastle, West Ham and Nottingham Forest are included within that run of games, and they most recently played out a 2-2 draw against Ange Postecoglou‘s Spurs.
Unfortunately for Newport, we at SportsLens don’t anticipate another cup upset in their favour.
