Newcastle vs Arsenal typically produces matches of the highest quality, and this weekend is expected to be no different.
Both teams head into Saturday having fared very differently in midweek’s Carabao Cup fourth round, with the Gunners making the long trip north after being put to the sword by West Ham.
They remain unbeaten in the league however, but come up against a Newcastle side who have well and truly put their early-season blip behind them with a six-game unbeaten run.
Eddie Howe’s men sit atop of the goalscoring charts alongside Aston Villa, and have scored at least twice in five of those six unbeaten games. This should represent a test of the highest order for Arsenal, whose defensive record is bettered only by Manchester City.
The trip to St James’ Park proved to be a painful one for Mikel Arteta in 2022 where his side’s Champions League hopes were cut short, but last season’s 2-0 win, led by captain Martin Odegaard, should inspire a huge amount of confidence this weekend.

Despite waxing lyrical about Arsenal’s stoutness in defence, we can’t help but ignore Newcastle’s exceptional scoring rate so far this season.
26 goals in 10 games ranks alongside some of the best records across the continent, and the lion’s share of their 17 points – 12 to be exact – have come on home soil.
We thought it best to steer clear of predicting who will win this fixture however, or by how many goals – it just has an air of unpredictability about it. Therefore, a goalscorer selection seemed like a sensible tip.
In Alexander Isak’s absence, Callum Wilson will shoulder even more of the responsibility in front of goal. We predicted him to score in our Wolves vs Newcastle tips last weekend, where he more than repaid our faith after netting a brace.
That took his tally up to seven goals in his nine season appearances – he can add to that on Saturday evening.
