“Incredibly FORTESCUE got going too late in this race last season when finishing fifth but he’s 5lb lower here and has strong each-way claims for Henry Daly and Hugh Nugent who takes off 3lb as he did twelve months ago.
“My hope hasn’t won since February 2022, but his fourth behind Nassalam looks good form now and he has a huge chance of a place at least.”

“Here’s a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. Get A Tonic did this column a right touch when scoring at 28-1 last time and she might well go in again. That said she jumped so well that day that it’s hard to believe she can put the same round in again when 8lb higher.
The one I like this time is IRISH HILL, who was fancied but well beaten in Get A Tonic’s race and can bounce back here for the champion Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden.”

“The Mandarin Handicap Chase over 3m2f. This is wide open. CERTAINLY RED is down 1lb for a third at Sandown last time when he kept on really well behind Truckers Lodge He’s not run well here before but at his best has each-way claims for Marc Goldstein and Lydia Richards. Mud is fine for him should the rain keep falling.”

“Up in class now for the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle over an extended 2m4f. There are some really good horses in here. WILLMOUNT blew me away when he scored on this track on debut for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville.
“He might not want too much rain as he was taken out of Sandown on heavy going, but he’s clearly talented and this trip should be ideal as he’s a 3m point-to-point scorer.”
3:35 Newbury – 2m6½f (2m6f93y) Coral Get Closer To The Action Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (Class 3) – Ballycamus @ 4/1
“A limited novices’ handicap chase over an extended 2m6f. This might be a step too far for BALLYCAMUS, but the Nigel Twiston-Davies runner is in good form and should stay so he has to have each-way claims at least under the decent Tom Bellamy.
“My hope was a fine winner at Chepstow last time and a very useful second at Warwick this time before in a big field over hurdles. Seems to be getting his act together.”
