Mimikyu Most-Fancied of Lancashire Oaks Runners

Nobody in the race’s history has saddled more winners than John Gosden. It’s perhaps for that reason most of all, that he and son Thady train the favourite with online bookmakers this year in Mimikyu. Proven oven further, the yard and same owner landed the Lancashire Oaks 12 months ago with Free Wind.

Sea Silk Road is an improving filly against the stamina laden market leader, however, and advertised her credentials with Group 3 success at Haydock races in June. There’s only one Group 1 winner among the Lancashire Oaks runners decelared, meanwhile, and that’s Richard Hannon inmate Aristia.

Each of these fillies and mares have claims on the pick of their form, meaning Mimikyu faces no easy task up against deeper opposition than the betting suggests. 1. Aristia

Perhaps had some excuses when losing both shoes and trailing in last in Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York races on reappearance latest. Contender if judged on pick of form that includes second to Nashwa at Glorious Goodwood and when just holding the useful Rosscarbery in a Group 1 in France last summer.

2. Luisa Casati

Dual Listed distance winner this year in France and at Goodwood races latest who has her sights raised. Seen to be effect with some cut in the ground. Probably needs further rain if she’s going to build on recent efforts now upped in grade.

3. Mimikyu

Course and distance novice winner who progressed last year to land Group 2 over further at Doncaster races during the St Leger Festival. Not in love with quick ground when collared in the Bronte Cup at York on reappearance and missed intended engagement in the Lester Piggott due to similar going. Strong favourite among Lancashire Oaks runners this year with yard saddling a record nine winners in the race. Midweek rain enhances her chances.

4. One For Bobby

Ex-Irish trained filly who delivered Listed victory on first UK start and stable debut. Not disgraced when third in hot AW Group 3 at Newcastle races when behind Nashwa latest, but didn’t shape as though step up in trip would suit.

5. Peripatetic

Still potentially progressive Ulysses filly who made all to land Listed event at Goodwood over this trip on reappearance. Never out the first two in four starts at the distance. Obvious place to come after beating the boys, but still needs further improvement to put her in amongst the best rated Lancashire Oaks runners in this. Each way claims despite that.

6. Poptronic

Third on both of her starts in Group company this season including the Lester Piggott over course and distance latest. Last win on AW reads very well as runner-up won in this grade at Royal Ascot last month. Appears held on subsequent form involving Sea Silk Road and Peripatetic.

7. Sea Silk Road

Ribblesdale runner-up at Royal Ascot last year who put in career best effort when landing the Group 3 Lester Piggott over course and distance latest. Had Poptronic in front of her on reappearance, but clearly came on plenty for that and just behind Group 1 second in Stay Well that day. Shortlisted.

8. Time Lock

Lightly-raced Juddmonte filly but a three-time beaten favourite already in her career. Didn’t justify short odds when a tame fourth in the Lester Piggott here latest. Definitely needs to improve both on form and ratings as other Lancashire Oaks runners have her number.

9. Wickywickywheels

Hamilton specialist and Heritage Handicap winner last summer who loves Greater Glasgow track. Listed winner in Abu Dhabi over winter but not built on that since. Has a stone to find on ratings with the best fillies. Discounted.
