Kitty’s Light Tops 31 Possible Scottish Grand National Runners

The Christian Williams yard will be hoping to win Saturday’s Scottish Grand National for a second year-in-a-row – this time with their improving staying chaser Kitty’s Light, who heads 31 Scottish Grand National runners at this stage.

Scottish Grand National Runners Are Headed by Kitty’s Light

Last year we witnessed the Christian Williams-trained Win My Wings win the Eider Chase at Newcastle and then follow-up in the Scottish Grand National a few months later. And this is exactly what another Williams runner – KITTY’S LIGHT – will be trying to do this Saturday at Ayr racecourse.

Kitty’s Light stayed on powerfully to win the 2023 Eider Chase back on February 25th and since then has been kept fresh for a tilt at the 2023 Scottish Grand National this weekend.

He’s the current Scottish Grand National favourite @ 7/2 with the best horse racing betting sites.

At the latest declaration stage, this staying 7 year-old was propping up the market ahead of 30 other possible Scottish Grand National runners, with the 2023 Grand National-winning trainer Lucinda Russell having two entries. See the full list of remaining runners below.

The Aintree-winning handler still has her 2021 Scottish Grand National winner – Mighty Thunder in the race, who is rated 19lbs lower this time. While she’s also got the consistent Your Own Story, who has already proved he stays when winning over 3m7f at Wetherby last month.

Can Russell land two Nationals inside a week?

Christian Williams Could Also Run Cap Du Nord

Last year’s winning handler, Christian Williams could also have Cap Du Nord running in Saturday’s Coral-sponsored 4m race. The 10 year-old was also left in at the latest declaration stage and despite running below-par the last day at Kempton in the Coral Trophy, would be a player on his Swinley Chase win at Ascot in February.

Dusart Expected to Shoulder Top Weight

Trainer Nicky Henderson is yet to win the Scottish Grand National, but he could be putting that right with Dusart still one of the 31 Scottish Grand National runners. The 8 year-old was last seen pulling up in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham on Trials Day at the end of January so needs to bounce back.

He’s still only had five career runs over fences though – winning three, and being a 150+ rated horse would bring some class to the race. However, this class comes with a price as he’d be the top weight in the race with 12st.

Monbeg Genius Sure to Be Popular Based On His Cheltenham Form

Another horse that Scottish Grand National punters are sure to latch onto is Monbeg Genius. This Jonjo O’Neill runner was last in action running third to a certain horse called Corach Rambler at the Cheltenham Festival (watch below).

Of course, the form of that run has seen been given a big shot in the arm with Corach Rambler winning last Saturday’s Aintree Grand National. If successful, Monbeg Genius would be Jonjo O’Neill’s first winner in the race.

Other horses that ran in the Ultima Chase that have a Scottish Grand National entry are Oscars Elite and Threeunderthurfive.
