Irish Gold Cup 2024: Fastorslow Leopardstown Track Stats Suggest A Cautious Betting Approach

With Fastorslow having lowered the colours of Galopin Des Champs twice since the Willie Mullins chaser won the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup, then there will be plenty of punters looking for a third upset in the Irish Gold Cup this Saturday. However, before jumping in to back the Martin Brassil-trained runner there are some alarming Leopardstown track stats that might make you think twice.

Fastorslow Leopardstown Track Stats Are Average, To Say The Least

Mulryan silksThe 8 year-old Fastorslow probably hasn’t got the full credit he deserves in beating the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs – not once, but twice.

He’ll be looking to prove this ‘Galopin double’ wasn’t a fluke for a third time in the Irish Gold Cup on Saturday and is the clear second favourite with the best UK horse racing betting sites.

But despite being the big alternative to last year’s Irish Gold Cup winner, there are some alarming track stats that Fastorslow will have to overcome if he’s to topple the Willie Mullins horse again.

Three Runs and NO Wins At Leopardstown

In short, Fastorslow has raced at Leopardstown three times – including twice at the Dublin Racing Festival and the best he’s done was a fifth in last year’s Dublin Chase. However, there were only five runners in that contest and he was around 26-lengths behind the winner Gentleman De Mee.

Prior to that he was only 12th in the Liffey Handicap Hurdle in 2022 and 10th a few months earlier that season at the Christmas meeting.

Okay, you can certainly argue he’s a much-improved horse since these Leopardstown runs, but it still remains that each time he’s run at the Dublin track he’s been a long way back.

If we also contrast these poor track stats to the excellent ones that Galopin Des Champs has at Leopardstown, then you feel the task for Fastorslow in the Irish Gold Cup on Saturday looks an even harder one.

Fastorslow Horse Stats at Leopardstown

  • 5th Feb 2023: 5th Dublin Chase (beaten 26l)
  • 6th Feb 2022: 12th Liffey Handicap Hurdle (beaten 24l)
  • 10th Feb 2021: 10th Paddy Power Handicap Hurdle (beaten 19 1/2l)

Fastorslow Has Beaten Galopin Des Champs Twice – But They Both Came At Punchestown

The two times Fastorslow has beaten Galopin Des Champs have been at Punchestown – in the Punchestown Gold Cup and the John Durkan Memorial Chase.

While his overall form at Punchestown is solid – reading 2-2-5-1-1, to suggest this Irish track is his preferred weapon of choice.

However, win lose or draw on Saturday in the Gold Cup, the good news is that his Cheltenham Festival record is not too shabby either – having run second in the Ultima Chase and the Coral Cup.

Meaning, if these Leopardstown track stats continue for Fastorslow on Saturday, there is a decent chance he could bounce back at Cheltenham in the Gold Cup in March.
