Trainer Paul Nicholls thinks his five-year-old gelding has what it takes to make the step up here, so HERMES ALLEN makes obvious appeal. Both Nicholls and today’s jockey, Harry Cobden, are in excellent form. It’s no wonder Hermes Allen is up amongst the favourites on the top betting sites.

Hermes Allen comes to Cheltenham for the first time in his career after back-to-back wins in his last two starts. The five-year-old won over three miles at Kirkistown last year in a point-to-point, before taking a long absence and winning on his return last month in a maiden hurdle at Stratford. He won by a stagger 27 lengths that time with Bryony Frost on board, so it is clear to see this horse likes the jumps too.
That win last month was over the 2m6f trip, so today’s task of one furlong less should suit Hermes Allen once more. He is one of the only horses in the race who has ran this distance before and who looks comfortable with the trip, ground and over hurdles. That gives the form a solid look and makes 11st 2lbs look lenient for Hermes Allen as he won last time off two-pounds heavier.
Taking all of this into account, Hermes Allen is effectively 2lb lower than when routing the opposition by 27 lengths at Stratford on her last start. Hereditary Rule NB going in search of hat-trick of wins at Cheltenham
Our Next Best bet of the day is HEREDITARY RULE in the Novice’ Limited Handicap Chase in the second race on the Cheltenham card. This seven-year-old gelding is in fine form, winning three of his last six races as well as have two runner-ups in there as well.. The pick of his form and race results suggest there could still be even more to come.
Hereditary Rule is 3/6 in Chases so far, winning his last run over the fences as well as last time out when over the hurdles. His OR of 137 today is fair, with his last two chases being off a mark of 138. He is in great form and is certainly in with a chance here in this nine horse race over the Cheltenham fences for 2m4f.
Last term was stop-start with him with suitable conditions for chasing hard to come by. Hereditary Rule’s last run in a chase was at the back end of August, with horse racing betting sites sending him off as the favorite at 11/8, which of course he did win. A mark of 11st 10lbs doesn’t look unachievable for this impressive gelding.
