Securing victory at The Masters is an outstanding accomplishment on its own, but has there been a golfer who achieved consecutive wins in the tournament?
As the 88th Masters Tournament approaches, it’s worth noting that only 17 players have managed to win multiple times at Augusta National Golf Club, with even fewer achieving back-to-back victories.
Who Was The Last Back-To-Back Winner At The Masters?
Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods are the exclusive trio who have clinched back-to-back Masters Tournament victories. Notably, Nicklaus holds the record for the most wins in the tournament with six, followed closely by Woods with five triumphs.
Nicklaus secured consecutive victories at Augusta National Golf Club in 1965 and 1966, marking his second and third wins in the prestigious tournament.
Nicklaus nearly achieved an unprecedented streak at the Masters Tournament, winning his first in 1963, finishing tied for second in 1964, and then claiming victory in the subsequent two years. However, his remarkable run came to an unexpected halt as he missed the cut in 1967.
Following Nicklaus, Faldo achieved consecutive victories at Augusta in 1989 and 1990. Remarkably, he secured his third Green Jacket six years after his second win with a triumphant performance in 1996.
Tiger Woods, unsurprisingly, achieved consecutive victories at the Masters in 2001 and 2002, during his peak dominance of the golf world. Interestingly, these wins also marked Woods’s second and third victories at Augusta.

Throughout history, only three golfers have successfully defended their Masters titles. However, Jon Rahm is determined to add his name to that exclusive list alongside Augusta legends Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
Can Jon Rahm Successfully Defend His Masters Victory From 2023?
Rahm will be in the spotlight come April. Following his impressive four-shot victory over Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson in 2023, he currently stands as the third favourite to win this year’s Masters.
While Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are currently tied as the favorites to win, discounting Jon Rahm would be unwise considering his strong track record at Augusta.
Rahm’s Masters journey began in 2017, where he finished a commendable T27. Over the subsequent years, he secured four consecutive top-10 finishes, notably placing fourth in his second appearance and T5 in 2021.
After a brief absence from the top 10 in 2022, Rahm made a spectacular comeback and clinched the trophy in 2023, marking a significant moment in his Masters journey.

His victory at the Masters last year marked the beginning of an impressive 2023 campaign, during which he secured a T10 finish at the U.S. Open and a T2 finish at the Open Championship. Additionally, he won three PGA Tour events and experienced success at the Ryder Cup.
As of 2024, Rahm had a strong start to the year, kicking off with the Mayakoba LIV Golf Invitational, where he finished tied for third place in a competitive field. The tournament was won by Joaquin Niemann in a playoff against veteran Sergio Garcia.
Following that, Rahm secured an eighth-place finish in the Las Vegas Invitational, showing signs of frustration as he requested fans to quiet down while on the tee box.
Although Rahm’s game might not be at its peak leading up to the Masters, he has a knack for performing exceptionally well at Augusta. He typically remains within striking distance of the lead and is expected to be among the top contenders once again this year.
