At 7/20, England are widely expected to walk away with nothing less than all three points in the opening game.
History shows that opening games can be notoriously cagey, and given there has been next to gap between the end of the domestic campaign and the start of the tournament, there is likely to be a settling in period.

Although we expect Iran to announce their intentions as a side not to be underestimated in Group B, England will have identified this opening game as a must-win.
They will want to avoid an-all British decider in the final group game against Wales, and the USA are an unknown quantity who enter the tournament with perhaps their most talented World Cup roster ever.

While it will be a cagey, tense affair as teams acclimatise to their new surroundings and the 30 plus degree heat, England will need to outscore their opponents who we have predicted to get on the scoresheet.
The Three Lions defence has been poor in recent performances – the absence of Kyle Walker in the central three will likely see Eric Dier deputise in his stead, and the rather uninspiring combination along with Harry Maguire, who has hardly featured for United this season, could be cause for concern.
