Coventry vs Maidstone Preview & Prediction (19:45 KO)

The FA Cup fifth round gets underway with one fixture on Monday evening, as Championship outfit Coventry host the tournament’s lowest-ranked remaining side in Maidstone United.

George Elokobi’s sixth tier side overcame the odds in the fourth round to defeat Premier League promotion chasers Ipswich Town 2-1, taking their tally of wins in the competition to seven for the season.

Stones fans are eyeing another major upset as they head to the Coventry Building Society Arena on Monday, however they’ll need to step up their game in order for that to happen as they are without a win in their last two.

They were without a game at the weekend after their tie against Weymouth was postponed, but they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Aveley last Monday which followed on from a 1-1 draw with Hemel Hempstead.

As for Coventry, they have been dominant in the cup thus far having beaten Oxford United 6-2 in the third round, as well as Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 in the fourth round at the start of the month.

Like Maidstone though, they come into the tie off the back of a league defeat. Mark Robins’ side were well beaten 3-0 by Preston on Saturday, as they remain four points adrift of Hull in the play-off positions.

We at SportsLens are anticipating another comfortable victory for the Sky Blues in the FA Cup on Monday night, which would see the club reach the quarter-finals for the first time in 15 years.

Prediction: Coventry 3-0 Maidstone

Coventry vs Maidstone Betting Tips

  • Coventry Half Time/Full Time @ 1/2
  • Ellis Simms To Score Two Or More @ 4/1
  • Combined Bet Builder Odds @ 5/1

Coventry vs Maidstone Betting Tip 1: Coventry Half Time/Full Time @ 1/2

Our first tip for your Monday night Coventry vs Maidstone FA Cup fifth round bet builder is to back the Sky Blues to lead the match at both half time and full time, priced by leading UK betting sites at 1/2.

As previously mentioned, Robins’ men have been dominant in the cup thus far, recording 6-2 and 4-1 victories over Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday in the third and fourth rounds.

Despite losing at the weekend, Coventry have been in strong form in 2024 on the whole as well. They have won seven of their 12 matches since the turn of the year, including three in their last five, and have tasted defeat just twice across those 12 games.

They also went more than two months without a loss between the start of December and the start of February, and if they are able to regain some of that form for this one – we expect a very comfortable night for the hosts.

Coventry vs Maidstone Betting Tip 2: Ellis Simms To Score Two Or More @ 4/1

The defeat to Preston on Saturday was a bitterly disappointing one, but one shining beacon of hope was 23-year-old striker Ellis Simms.

Sky Blues fans took to social media to heap praise on the ex-Everton forward despite the 3-0 loss, with many applauding his incredible work rate.

Simms has been ever-present in the Coventry line-up this term, and boasts six goals and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. We at SportsLens are backing him to add to this on Monday.

Having scored in two of his last three second tier matches, we’re backing Simms to score two or more against a significantly weaker side in Maidstone, priced by leading UK bookmakers at 4/1.
