Coral Trophy Chase Tips: Killer Kane To Hit The Back Of The Net
Last year’s neck runner-up Flegmatik will be popular again but is rated 5lbs higher this time and this has not been too great a race for the favourites – just two in the last 21 runnings.
The Anthony Honeyball yard are triple-handed with Forward Plan, Sam Brown and Blackjack Magic – of that trio the last-named is worth a saver being ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, who has won three of the last nine runnings.
The first-time blinkers are also on this season’s Badger Beer Handicap Chase winner, which could eke out a bit more improvement from this 9 year-old.
2022 winner Cap Du Nord is back for more too and can’t be dismissed off just 10-2 but is no spring chicken these days at 11 – since 2005, we’ve only had one winner aged 11+ (Nacarat, 2009).
Paul Nicholls has won the race twice and his consistent Il Ridoto will be hoping to make it three. But he’s had some tough races this season at Cheltenham and is a horse that’s hard to win with – just one win from his last 12.
CD winner Tweed Skirt will have her backers for Nicky Henderson, who last won this race in 2004 with Marlborough.
While the Ben Pauling camp will be hoping to follow-up last Saturday’s big treble with Bowtogreatness for owner Harry Redknapp.
The Tizzard Yard Have Won Two Of The Last Eight Runnings
However, it’s another horse with a football link that gets the vote – KILLER KANE.
This 9 year-old is one of the other proven CD winners in the field and was 5th in the race last year. Yes, on that form he’s got ground to make up off the same mark, but the softer ground will help and returned after two months off earlier this month with a close third here at Kempton.
The Tizzard yard also have a fine record in the race, with two wins in the last eight. This will also only be his second run back after a wind op in December and based on his solid first run back from that last time, suggests it’s helped his breathing.
He looks a fair each-way price at a track we know he likes.
