Eider Chase Tips: Make Anglers Crag The ‘Catch Of The Day’

The Brian Ellison-trained ANGLERS CRAG is the clear form horse heading into Saturday’s Eider Chase and can add to the yard’s 2021 win in the race.

This 9 year-old ticks most of the main Eider Chase trends that include age, weight and recent form, plus we know his trainer has pedigree in the race and he also acts well with give underfoot.

He’s also set to the go off as the Eider Chase favourite – but the market leader has a fair record in the race, with a 21% SR in the last 19 renewals.

Anglers Crag has won on soft and heavy ground in the past and since being switched from the David Pipe yard to Brian Ellison is yet to lose a race (3-from-3).

The last of those three wins came at Musselburgh earlier this month, when an easy 11-length winner. Yes, the handicapper has raised him another 11lbs, but jockey Henry Brooke seemed to have enough left in the locker and is taken to continue his good form.

Of the rest, course winners Fenland Tiger and Cruz Control are respected, but the last-named will be stepping up markedly in trip, which is a big unknown.

Tommie Beau is out-and-out stayer but has had a busy campaign, so the main danger can come from the Venetia Williams-trained Christopher Wood.

He was staying on well last time (3rd) over 4m at Musselburgh, has been dropped a pound for that by the handicapper and the stable also won this in 2007.
