With a poor start to the 2023/24 Premier League season many football fans are asking the question – when did Everton last get relegated?

Everton Were Last Relegated In The 1950-51 Season

Everton have NEVER been relegated from the Premier League and have only dropped out of the English top-flight twice in their history.

The Toffeemen are yet to play in a league lower than the second division, with their only relegations from the top table coming in the 1929-30 and 1950-51 seasons.

However, the Merseyside team bounced back to the top division in 1954-55 – meaning they have now been performing at the highest level for 69 years.

Everton Handed 10-Point Deduction For 2023/24 Season

Things have been made harder for Everton for the 2023/24 season too as the Premier League has deducted the Toffees 10 points due to a breach of profit and sustainability rule – you can read all about it here.

Everton Have Come Close To Being Relegated In The Last Two Seasons

The Toffeemen have also almost come unstuck in the last two seasons in the Premier League.

Last term (2022/23) Everton finished 17th and just one place off the drop zone with 36 points, which was only two clear of Leicester City.

While in 2021/22, when managed by Frank Lampard, Everton ended that campaign with 39 points in 16th place.

So, with a run of bottom four and five finishes over the last two seasons, is the writing on the wall for Everton this season?

A Poor Start To The 2023/24 Premier League Season For Everton

The Toffees have lost to Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolves.

Only Six Sides Have NEVER Been Relegated From The Premier League

Everton are also one of just six sides to have never been relegated from the English Premier League.

Since 1992, when the old English Division One become the Premiership and then the Premier League, there have been just six teams that have been ever present.

Everton are one of those six – along with Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.

While, even the current three-time champions Manchester City have been relegated from the Premier League (1996).
