Cheltenham Festival 2024: The Key Races

Each of the four Cheltenham Festival dates 2024 will see seven races, which gives the whole meeting an overall tally of 28 races.

The first race each day will be at 1:30pm and the final race of the afternoon at 5:30pm.

Across the Cheltenham Festival there are feature races every day, that include the Champion Hurdle (Tues), Champion Chase (Weds), Stayers’ Hurdle & Ryanair Chase (Thurs) and Cheltenham Gold Cup (Fri).

In 2024, these championship races are also dominated by some well-fancied Cheltenham bankers that are sure to figure in many double, trebles and accas over the Festival.

Constitution Hill will be a warm order to win his second Champion Hurdle on the opening day and if successful would also be providing trainer Nicky Henderson with his tenth success in the race.

The Willie Mullins-trained El Fabiolo will also be a popular pick in the Champion Chase on the Wednesday as last year’s Arkle winner looks to add a second Festival win to his CV.

While having bounced back to winning ways in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas, the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs is expected to be the clear favourite come race day on Friday 15th March.

Mullins will be looking for his fourth Cheltenham Gold Cup win since 2019 and if Galopin Des Champs can follow-up will join the likes of Al Boum Photo, Best Mate and Kauto Star as multiple winners of the Gold Cup in recent times.
