It’s a huge night in Group C as Ukraine take on Italy to close out their respective European Championship qualifying campaigns, with both sides knowing that a victory will ensure their spot at next summer’s tournament in Germany.
Italy can also book their place at Euro 2024 with a draw, as they currently sit second in the group – level on points with Ukraine, but boast a more favourable head-to-head record after narrowly edging the reverse fixture.
That clash in Milan ended in a 2-1 triumph for the hosts back in September, as Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi grabbed a first half double to secure all three points at the home of his club side.
Since then, the Italians have lost to England, and have beaten Malta and most recently North Macedonia, condemning the latter to a 5-2 drubbing on Friday evening thanks to goals from Matteo Darmian, Federico Chiesa, Giacomo Raspadori and Stephan El Sharaawy.
While Luciano Spalletti’s side were busy in their penultimate group game, Ukraine had already played out their first of two November fixtures on Thursday night – overcoming Polish Ekstraklasa side Lechia Gdansk 2-0.
With so much on the line in Leverkusen, this is a tough one to call.
