Tottenham Ease To First Victory Of The Season With 2-0 Win Over Hapless Manchester United Side

Tottenham cruised to victory over a depleted looking Manchester United side on Saturday afternoon, with the hosts picking up their first three points of the season.

The first half was fought brilliantly between the sides, but neither team could take the lead in a half that saw a minimal amount of chances created by either side.

The biggest opportunity of the first half fell to Bruno Fernandes, who timed his run perfectly to catch the Spurs defence napping with the midfielder left free in the box.

A pinpoint Luke Shaw cross found his captain in the middle of the penalty area, but Fernandes failed to convert with his header flying well wide of the post.

It was Tottenham who took the lead almost immediately after the break, with Pape Sarr scoring his first goal in a Spurs shirt to give the hosts a breakthrough.

Dejan Kulusevski whipped a dangerous cross into the box towards Richarlison, but a slight deflection saw the ball land at Sarr’s feet in the box and the midfielder was repaid for gambling on a late run into the box as he smashed home from close range to give Tottenham the advantage.

Manchester United smashed the post straight after Spurs took the lead, as Bruno Fernandes slotted Anthony in behind with the Brazilian only denied an equaliser by the width of the upright.

Tottenham were able to seal all three points with just under ten minutes left to play, as some beautiful build up play led to Spurs substitute Ben Davies sliding a deflected shot past Andre Onana.

The goal may well go down as a Lisandro Martinez own goal, but United’s fate was sealed either way with Tottenham winning their first game of the season by a comfortable 2-0 margin.
