Southampton’s Premier League relegation odds have been priced at 1/2 after the Saints drew 0-0 with Manchester United at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Ruben Selles’ Southampton came into this one sat at the bottom of the Premier League table.

A result was vital for the Saints, as several fellow relegation candidates picked up some points this weekend.

Due to Bournemouth’s victory over Liverpool, Southampton sat three points adrift of safety ahead of kick-off.

The Saints came into this one with some confidence. Last time out in the league, they ran out as 1-0 winners over Leicester City thanks to Charly Alcaraz’ first-half goal.

Southampton were handed a boost early on at Old Trafford, as Casemiro was shown a red card after just 33 minutes.

The Brazilian was shown his marching orders for a foul on Alcaraz.

Chances were scarce for both sides throughout the fixture, but Gavin Bazunu was equal to any effort United had on his goal.

The Irishman excellently denied Marcus Rashford one-on-one, before tipping Bruno Fernandes’ stunning strike onto the post.

James Ward-Prowse almost levelled David Beckham’s free-kick record to open the scoring too. The Englishman’s effort clipped the top of the crossbar.

Kyle Walker-Peters went close to opening the scoring as well. The full-back saw his effort from a tight angle rattle the crossbar.

The hosts held on late-on, as both sides had to settle for a point.

Southampton are now two points away from safety, as Bournemouth, West Ham and Leicester all sit on 24 points.

Up next for Selles’ men is a tough home tie against Brentford.

Despite it being a tough fixture, the Saints will take confidence from the Bees’ last outing.

Thomas Frank’s side were on the end of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to relegation-battling Everton.
