It’s the 2023 Saudi Cup this Saturday – the richest horse racing in the world. But just how much does the winning horse get and do the other finishers also win a prize?

Saudi Cup Has a Purse Of $20m

There is a total prize fund of $20m on the table for the Saudi Cup, which makes this unique race the most valuable in the world at present.

Next best in the ‘world’s richest horse race’ league table is the Dubai World Cup, but with only (we say only!) $12m on offer here, it’s still some way adrift of Saturday’s Saudi Cup.

Saudi Cup Winner Will Get a Cool $10m

Of the $20m Saudi Cup purse, the winning horse will receive 50% of this and scoop a tasty $10m.

Last year’s hero was Emblem Road, who was the shock 50/1 winner of the Saudi Cup, but in the process made his owners millionaires – 10 times over!

With the winning jockeys reported to get around 10% of the prize money for steering home a winner, then it’s also a huge payday race for the pilots.

12 months ago, veteran jockey Wigberto Ramos from Panama was smoking a few cigars after winning on Emblem Road, with a cool $1m banked!

What About the Other Saudi Cup Finishers?

The good news for the other horses in the Saudi Cup is that it’s not all about the winning – but the taking part.

As the race sponsors pay out all the way down to the 10th placed horse, who still get an incredible $200,000.

Yes, this year in 2023 we’ve 13 runners, so some will miss out, but there is still plenty to battle for. Meaning you can often get a race-within-a race, with jockeys riding for their best possible finish – the difference between coming 7th and 8th is a tidy $100k!
