It looked as though Ruben Amorim was set to takeover from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool but that no longer seems to be the case.

What has Amorim said about the Liverpool job?

A report from Sky Sports Germany claimed that there was a verbal agreement between Amorim and Liverpool for him to takeover from Klopp in the summer but the Sporting Lisbon manager has since denied those claims.

He said: “I did not meet Liverpool for any interview and there’s no agreement, it’s not true.

I’m Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn’t meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.

Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future”.

It’s evident that nothing has been agreed as of yet but the Portuguese manager didn’t rule out a move to Liverpool in the summer and negotiations may begin once the season is over.

Are there any other candidates for the Liverpool job?

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Xabi Alonso has decided to stay another year at Bayer Leverkusen. If Amorim decides not to join Liverpool, then who will?

Roberto De Zerbi is a name that has made the rounds in media. De Zerbi has impressed many football fans with his style of play and eye for unrepresented talent. He managed to reach the Europa League with Brighton for the first time in their clubs history.

This season hasn’t exactly gone to plan for the Seagulls and that has casted some doubt over whether De Zerbi is good enough for Liverpool.

Zinedine Zidane decided to leave Real Madrid in 2021 because he felt the club didn’t have faith in what he was trying to build. The French manager won three Champions League trophies in-a-row whilst managing Real Madrid and a proven serial winner might be what Liverpool need after Klopp goes.

Zidane has indicated he’d like to return to management and he has plenty of options this summer with Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all after a new coach.
