See below the Royal Ascot results for Wednesday 21st June 2023 as Frankie Dettori finally got on the scoresheet when steering home Gregory to win the Queen’s Vase. But overall, Wednesday was a day for the bookmakers with just the one winning market leader going in and a string of double-figure priced returns.

Royal Ascot Results For Wednesday 21st June 2023: A Day Of Shocks And Frankie Off The Mark With Queen’s Vase Winner
The Royal Ascot results for day two of the five-day meeting saw a string of wins for the bookmakers with the first five favourites all falling by the wayside.
We witnessed the first of the mini-shocks in the opening race – the Queen Mary Stakes – as the US-trained Crimson Advocate (1st 9/1) just held the late charge of Relief Rally. It was the second win in the race for US-based jockey John R. Velazquez as he steered home the George Weaver runner and the fifth American-trained winner since 2009, with the more-famed Wesley Ward having won the prize four times in the past.
Four more double-priced winners followed with the Jessie Harrington-trained Villanova Queen (25/1) landing the Kensington Palace Stakes, Rouge Millenium (10/1) winning the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, Jimi Hendrix (22/1) taking the Royal Hunt Cup and Big Evs (20/1) powering home in the final race of the day – the Windsor Castle Stakes.
Mostahdaf Wins The Prince Of Wales’s Stakes In Great Style
While the day’s feature race – the Group One Prince Of Wales’s Stakes also saw another upset as the Gosden-trained Mostahdaf (10/1) showed a great turn-of-foot to power away by 4 lengths, with the favourite Luxembourg taking silver (watch below).
The win provided trainer John Gosden with his fifth Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, having first won the prize in 1994 with Mutharram and most recently in 2020 with Lord North.
Frankie Dettori Finally On The 2023 Royal Ascot Scoresheet
However, the headline writers were changing their pieces as the afternoon wore on with a certain Frankie Dettori finally managing to break his 2023 Royal Ascot duck when he steered home Gregory (Evs) to win the Queen’s Vase – the penultimate race.
Frankie took up the running early on in this 1m6f contest and despite having a few challenges in the home straight, this unbeaten Golden Horn colt made it 3-from-3 and could now have the St Leger in his sights later in the season at Doncaster on September 16th.
It was Frankie’s 78th overall Royal Ascot winner and his third in the Queen’s Vase in what is his final year riding.
The win also led to another famous Frankie ‘Flying Dismount’ (pictured), but with just three more days riding at this meeting for Dettori, let’s hope it’s not his last.
