Beloved Italian jockey Dettori may be the wider public’s darling, but his final Royal Ascot rides all came up short with no better than fourth from five mounts. Mums Tipple fared best under him, hitting the frame in the Wokingham Stakes, yet well-punted horses including Kinross and Free Wind in the feature Group events simply found the ground too fast to handle.
Age Of Kings Leads Home Trio of Outsiders from Jersey Stakes Field
In a race over a real specialists’ distance of 7f, Age Of Kings pulled off a real shock in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes for three-year-olds (3:05). Ridden by Wayne Lordan, he was very much the Aidan O’Brien stable’s second string, but the horses prominent in the betting never really got involved.
Returned at 22/1, Age Of Kings came home a length in front of Qatar Racing’s Zoology who had the same SP. Back in third was Eve Johnson Houghton outsider Streets Of Gold. Notable disappointments here included Olivia Maralda, Holloway Boy, The Antarctic and favourite Covey.

Run in various guises and now six different names since 1868, the inaugural edition of the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes was one of the biggest shock Royal Ascot results in the meeting’s history. Khaadem was an 80/1 no hoper, according to bookmakers, but totally defied that lack of market confidence to get up and score by a neck in the Group 1 feature 6f sprint of the day (3:20).
This was jockey Jamie Spencer at his classic best, denying William Haggas’ Cheveley Park Stud mare Sacred. They were home from low draws in front of King’s Stand runner-up Highfield Princess, who again hit the frame. A couple of international sprinters in Australian pair Artorius and The Astrologist got into minor money.
Plucky Pyledriver Prevails in Hardwicke Stakes on Return Despite Stewards’ Inquiry
Despite the withdrawal of Hukum on the morning of the race, his old rival Pyledriver profited from that absence and delivered in the 1m 4f Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (4:20) despite 336 days off the track. Last year’s King George winner did lurch onto the far rail in the final furlong, but the result stood following a stewards’ inquiry.
Royal Ascot results here show Pyledriver bettering West Wind Blows and Changingoftheguard with the unlucky in-running Deauville Legend finding no way through behind in fourth. Free Wind was the disappointing favourite in fifth.

Hollie Doyle and Archie Watson are becoming a combination to be feared at Ascot with the jockey and training duo striking for a third time of the week with Saint Lawrence in the 6f Wokingham Stakes Heritage Handicap (5:00). This length victory was all the more remarkable as it was the sprinter’s stable debut.
Saint Lawrence, a 22/1 shot, showcased both his rider and handler’s skills. In a typically bunched finish for a race of its nature, Royal Ascot results show Apollo One, Juan Les Pins and Mums Tipple hitting the frame.
Ryan Moore & Aidan O’Brien Crowned Champion Jockey & Trainer
For the tenth time in his career in the saddle, Ryan Moore was top rider at the Royal meeting. He capped that with a sixth success of the week aboard 2/1 favourite Dawn Rising for Joseph O’Brien and leading Irish owner JP McMnaus. The trainer’s father Aidan was best overall handler, though, with five victories.
