They also say that this new contract weill recognise the Hale End product as an ‘important’ member of Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Nelson’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, with strong interest from several Premier League sides as well as from abroad.

Arsenal have been linked with a multitude of wingers over the past few months, whilst Nelson was expected to depart.

But now, the former Hoffenheim-loanee looks set to stay after enjoying an impressive season despite seeing his playing time limited.

In the Premier League, the winger has scored three goals, and has assisted on two occasions in just 10 appearances.

Arteta has always been a big fan of Nelson, and has never shied away from heaping praise on the youngster.

“I always saw the potential,” Arteta said in March.

“The talent and the desire for him to do it, but he’s at a different level right now. I think emotionally, the experiences that he had helped him.

“Football-wise, it was my decision in the last two games not to play him because we had other options. But he was knocking on the door, he’s been training really good and it’s a good lesson for me and for the coaches that we need him and that he can be really important for the team.”
