Ger Lyons has a cracking record with already-gelded three-year-old newcomers on turf, scoring with 13 of the 59 qualifiers since 2010 for a profit of £74.25. JUNOT, a general 12-1 shot at the time of writing, has Colin Keane on board and might be up to making a winning debut.

POPPY PETAL (system – Fast Company, soft or heavy going, Flat)
Prior to yesterday’s racing, progeny of the sire Fast Company were 106 from 785 when racing on the Flat on soft or heavy going for a profit of £44.83 to a £1 level stake at SP.
That’s only a 5.7% profit on turnover but taking the best price the evening before racing would boost that to 39%. Both SWIFT FLIGHT and POPPY PETAL qualify in this 5f handicap, with preference for the last-named who may appreciate the drop in trip and first-time blinkers.
CHELMSFORD 8.00
ODISSEO (system – Marco Botti, all-weather handicaps, 3-4yos)
Since the spring of 2016, Marco Botti has a 100 from 702 record with three and four-year-olds in all-weather handicaps, though backing them blind at SP would have returned a loss of £47.16.
We could have made money by taking the best early price the night before racing but the best way to turn this into a profitable system is to side with fresh horses who were returning from a break of more than six weeks.
This angle has produced 38 winners from 195 bets in the same period for a huge profit of £109.91. ODISSEO isn’t best drawn but could still be worth chancing to small each-way stakes.
