Andrew heads to the all-weather meetings at Wolverhampton and Newcastle for his two recommended bets/trades on Tuesday, January 16th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:

WOLVERHAMPTON 3.40

INEXPLICABLE has a tricky wide draw in stall 11 in this 8.6f handicap but Antony Brittain’s seven-year-old returned to form with a 12-1 one-length third at Southwell last week and will appreciate the return to Wolverhampton, scene of seven of his eight career wins. His yard is emerging from a quiet spell the majority of his course rins have come from stall 7 or higher, suggesting that a high draw isn’t insurmountable for a hold-up performer. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back INEXPLICABLE in Wolverhampton 3.40

NEWCASTLE 7.30

As a general rule, front-runners struggle on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface. However, the bias is strongest on the round course (distances of 1m2f or further) and it can actually help top make the running in 5f handicaps. Since the Tapeta surface was introduced in 2016, pacesetters have a 65 from 386 record in 5f handicaps (16.8% strike-rate) for a profit of £166.03 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 41.81, A/E = 1.55). Antony Brittain hasn’t had a winner for 108 days (67 runners) but recent signs have been more positive (Tathmeen was beaten by a neck into second place at Wolverhampton last night) and veteran outsider ANOTHER ANGEL might be able to get an easy on the front end. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price, each-way.

Recommendation: Back ANOTHER ANGEL in Newcastle 7.30
