Early meetings on the new Southwell Tapeta surface suggested the 5f bias was similar to that on Fibresand, favouring those drawn low-to-middle who raced on the front end. However, the track was decompacted last month and, since then, the low draws have struggle to get into contention, with just one winner (from 30 qualifiers) drawn six or lower.
We’ve had some odd results and simply backing any horses drawn in stall 7 or higher would have found four winners from 29 bets for a profit of £33.00. It has still paid to race close to the early pace and two who fit the profile in this 5f nursery are WEDGEWOOD (stall 11) and LET’S CELEBRATE (stall 10). The latter’s breeding suggests that Tapeta might not be ideal but I still want to keep her onside, so a buy of DOUBLE DRAW OF WINNER at 11.5 with Spreadex could be the best angle.
