Andrew returns to the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown for his three recommended bets/trades on Sunday, February 4th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:

LEOPARDSTOWN SP FAVOURITES

Market leaders have won more than their fair share of races since the Dublin Racing Festival was inaugurated in 2018, especially in the non-handicaps. No less than 35 of the 62 market leaders in non-handicap company (prior to yesterday’s card) have proved successful and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £11.26 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 28.87, A/E = 1.21). Seven-year-old SP favourites won all 11 of their completed starts in non-handicaps, which isn’t the greatest news for those bookmakers looking to oppose EL FABIOLO (2.10) and STATE MAN (2.45). BALLYBURN (1.40) and GAELIC WARRIOR (1.10) are other shorties with solid claims and even the competitive handicaps have produced their share of successful favourites, including three winners (4-1f, 100-30f and 7-4f) from six runners in the opening 2m2f Listed mares’ handicap hurdle.

Recommendation: Buy SP FAVOURITES at Leopardstown

LEOPARDSTOWN 3.20

The older brigade usually struggle in the O’Driscolls Irish Whiskey Leopardstown Handicap Chase, with those aged nine or older failing to register a win from 63 attempts in the six runnings of this 2m5.5f contest. Backing the younger horses who prepped in handicap company would have found five winners from 39 bets for a profit of £32.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Gordon Elliott won this with 10-1 shot The Goffer last year and his RIAAN, only beaten by two lengths when fourth on unsuitably soft ground in a 2m5f handicap chase at Cork in late November, looks interesting off a break. The seven-year-old’s record over trips of 2m4f-2m5f stands at 2211P14 (3-7), with the non-completion coming on soft ground in the Coral Cup at last year’s Cheltenham festival. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back RIAAN in Leopardstown 3.20

LEOPARDSTOWN 3.50

Horses wearing headgear have a 0-65 record in the six runnings of this 2m Listed handicap hurdle, a stat which rules out 12 of the 22 participants. Two were placed last year but in 2022 none of the 14 qualifiers finished in the first seven. Backing those without headgear, aged seven or younger, who ran in handicap company last time, would have found six winners from 31 runners for a profit of £23.00.  THE MODEL KINGDOM found the heavy ground against her when eighth of 13 over course and distance just after Christmas and can bounce back with underfoot conditions more to her liking. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back THE MODEL KINGDOM in Leopardstown 3.50
