Premier League Darts Night Four Tips

7:15pm: Michael Smith vs Nathan Aspinall – Smith -1.5 Handicap 5/4

This year’s renewal of Premier League Darts sees Michael Smith compete for the seventh year since 2016 and it’s a tournament he seems to enjoy – making the final in 2018 and the semi-finals in 2023.

‘Bully Boy’ kicked things off on night one by beating Michael van Gerwen, Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price to set the tone in Cardiff and he was unfortunate to meet an impressive Van Gerwen in the semi-finals on night two.

He hasn’t been in the best form since, recording three Players Championship defeats alongside a quarter-final exit in the Premier League on night three to Rob Cross. However Smith is still preferred to Nathan Aspinall, whose game is in a difficult place at the minute.

‘The Asp’ is yet to record a point in the tournament after three weeks and his form dating back to late September following a defeat in the World Series of Darts Finals to Van Gerwen has been subpar at best.

The two-time major winner has started brightly on two occasions against Price and Van Gerwen but quickly faded and opened the door for his opponent. Smith is a player who can punish this greatly with his impressive combination finishing and scoring.

In each of the last three meetings between Smith and Aspinall in the Premier League, Bully Boy has claimed the spoils with 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2 wins. If he can continue this trend, 5/4 for Smith to win by two or more legs looks solid value.

7:45pm: Rob Cross vs Luke Humphries – Humphries Win & Most 180s 5/6

Luke Humphries dominates this match-up statistically and on form, beating Rob Cross in each of the pair’s last three meetings dating back to September 2023. Humphries will be keen to bounce back after collapsing against Van Gerwen to win night three in Glasgow.

In the last 12 months, Humphries (668) has thrown just shy of double the number of 180s that Cross (362) has managed. ‘Cool Hand’ looks to be in the prime of his career with four major titles to his name since October 2023.

Humphries is relentless on the treble 20, recording 597 in ranked events over the last 12 months – 131 more than Damon Heta in second. Cross hasn’t properly settled in the tournament so far and his opponent should be sharper for this.

The reigning World Champion has the best tournament average after three weeks (101.58) and thrown the second most 180s per leg (0.41) behind only Van Gerwen.

8:15pm: Peter Wright vs Luke Littler – Littler Win & Most 100+ Checkouts 7/5

Peter Wright’s inclusion in the Premier League was controversial to many and his performances so far have justified that feeling amongst fans of the sport, recording three straight quarter-final exits.

He faces the toughest match-up possible on night four against Luke Littler in his bid to get off the mark, but it’s more than likely he’ll be waiting until night five for his first semi-final appearance of the year.

Littler has the second highest tournament average (100.92) and he should’ve claimed the crown on night two when he missed crucial darts to beat Van Gerwen in the final.

Thursday night in Newcastle marks the first meeting between Wright and Littler, so the teenager will be keen to stamp his mark against a two-time World Champion.

‘The Nuke’ loves to impress and perform on the stage, which is exactly what he’s done in the Premier League so far. The best betting angle for this game looks like Littler to win with the most 100+ checkouts – he has two so far, vs Rob Cross on night two and in defeat against Gerwyn Price last week.

8:45pm: Gerwyn Price vs Michael van Gerwen – Price To Win 6/5

Since Smith claimed the title on night one, Van Gerwen has taken over as the league leader with two wins in Berlin and Glasgow. The Dutchman has a three-point cushion at the top and it’s been fairly comfortable so far.

We’ll see if this level of form is sustainable in the Premier League, but with Gerwyn Price heading in feeling good about his game it could be worth chancing ‘The Iceman’ to complete an upset at 6/5.

Price has lost his last two outings against Van Gerwen, but prior to that he had recorded five straight wins and is more than capable of turning the tables tonight – presuming the Utilita Arena in Newcastle has paid their heating bill.

Since Humphries knocked him out in the semi-final last week, Price has won three on the bounce on the Players Championship circuit. When he’s confident in his game he usually proves tough to beat.
