World Darts Championship Day 4 Tips

7:15pm – Mario Van Den Bogaede vs Thibault Tricole: Van Den Bogaede To Win & Highest Checkout @ 7/5

Night four of the 2024 World Darts Championship kicks off with a relatively close one in the betting between Mario Van Den Bogaede and Thibault Tricole in round one, with the former priced as the 1/2 favourite to Tricole at 13/8.

Van Den Bogaede has previous and valuable major experience in the bag following a last 16 finish at the Players Championship Finals earlier this year. Granted, his opponents weren’t the toughest of challenges and he was swiftly sent home by Michael van Gerwen after three games.

Frenchman Thibault Tricole is experiencing his first taste of the Alexandra Palace stage like his opponent, but he doesn’t have quite as much experience. Van Den Bogaede has been beating decent names on the Players Championship circuit this year.

Our play for this one is the Van Den Bogaede match double with highest checkout at 7/5.

8:15pm – Gian van Veen vs Man Lok Leung: Van Veen To Win, Highest Checkout & Most 180s @ 4/7

Van Veen is the hot 1/20 favourite in this match-up against Hong Kong native Man Lok Leung (10/1), whose career highlight is a last 32 finish in the 2021 World Cup alongside two wins on the Asian Tour this year.

He comes up against one of darts’ rising stars in Van Veen, who is as short as 50/1 to win the tournament on debut according to the best new UK betting sites. At the age of just 21, he’s earned over £160,000 in the sport.

The Dutchman has a season win percentage of 74 and his highest TV average came in at almost 108 this year. His price says it all, this is one he should be winning doing cartwheels.

He recently lost to fellow young sensation Luke Littler in the World Youth Championship final, so he’s coming here with something to prove. It’s tough to find a betting angle for this one but the match treble at 4/7 goes nicely in the accumulator.

9:15pm – Martin Lukeman vs Haupai Puha: Lukeman To Win & Highest Checkout @ 21/20

Martin Lukeman takes on Haupai Puha in the penultimate match of the night, as the Englishman looks to bounce back in his second tournament appearance after going out in the second round to Martin Schindler last year.

The 38-year-old has played well on the stage in a number of events before, most notably a quarter-final finish at the 2022 Grand Prix, reaching the last 16 of the UK Open in 2017 and losing in the 2022 German Darts Grand Prix final vs Luke Humphries.

Puha, who hails from New Zealand, lost in straight sets to Mickey Mansell four years ago on his tournament debut. Since then, his career highlight was a last 16 defeat in the World Series of Darts Finals to Peter Wright.

He’s mainly played his darts on the MODUS Super Series circuit which is an entirely different challenge to the Players Championship and European Tour where Lukeman has a wealth of experience.

Lukeman to win and highest checkout looks to be the best angle in this one.

10:15pm – Gerwyn Price vs Connor Scutt: Price To Win, Highest Checkout & Most 180s @ 11/8

Gerwyn Price has plenty to prove in the World Championship this year. Following a collapse in the quarter-finals last time out vs Gabriel Clemens where he emerged on the stage wearing an infamous pair of now-banned ear defenders to deflect the Alexandra Palace crowd’s jeers, there will be plenty of discussion regarding his mental resilience on the North London stage.

Price has been vocal regarding his belief that if the tournament was played anywhere else, he would be a multiple-time World Champion. When it was held behind closed doors in 2021, the 38-year-old beat Gary Anderson in the final to claim the crown.

Whilst there are concerns, his second round tie with Connor Scutt shouldn’t present any real problems for him. Scutt is English and will undoubtedly earn the backing of the arena, but talent wise there is no debate.

The crowd may become more of a problem for him towards the later stages of the competition where the format is much longer, which is why I’d be hesitant to back him to win outright.

Tonight is expected to be a routine outing for Price, but you can’t discredit Scutt who greatly impressed in his opening clash with Krzysztof Kciuk. The 27-year-old looks to have plenty of potential in the sport.

Price match treble at 11/8 rounds off the 17/1 four-fold accumulator for Day 4.
