Paul Townend Cheltenham Rides Day 3: Four Rides On Thursday
Paul Townend was crowned the Champion Jockey of the Year last year for his sensational performance at the Cheltenham Festival. He won a staggering five races, including two seconds and three third place finish too. This year, he will be hoping to replicate that form with a stellar showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
On Day 3, Paul Townend has four rides on Thursday 16th March. These rides include Appreciate It, who is the third favourite in the Turners Novices’ Chase behind Mighty Potter and Banbridge.
The two-time Gold Cup winner with Al Boum Photo also has three more rides on Day 3 along with Appreciate It. He rides the second favourite in the Ryanair Chase, Blue Lord, who has looked sensational in recent runs and has every chance of beating Shishkin.
His other two rides on Day 3 of Cheltenham come in the form of Klassical Dream in the Stayers’ Hurdle and Lot Of Jot in the Mares’ Novices Hurdle. Both again have a great chance of winning their respective races.

What Horses Is Paul Townend Riding On Day 3 Of The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?

APPRECIATE IT (Turners Novices’ Chase – 13.30): @ 9/2 with BetUK
Paul Townend’s first run of the day comes in the first race on Day 3 in the form of Appreciate It in the Turners Novices’ Chase. The Cheltenham odds suggest that Appreciate It has ever chance in this one as the third favourite behind Banbridge and Mighty Potter.
Appreciate It came second in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in 202, before winning the following year in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle by an incredibly 24 lengths. When he is on form, he is a talented horse and has a real chance here for Townend.
BLUE LORD (Ryanair Chase – 14.50): @ 6/1 with BetUK
Paul Townend’s second ride on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival comes in the form of Blue Lord in the Ryanair Chase. He is currently the second favourite behind Shishkin, who has been deemed as one of the bankers of the entire Festival by tipsters.
However, Blue Lord himself boasts strong form with six wins from his last seven chasing starts and a third place finish here in the Arkle Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham last year. Brilliant chance for Townend to pick up a winner in this one.
KLASSICAL DREAM (Stayers’ Hurdle – 15.30): @ 9/1 with BetUK
Paul Townend’s third run on Day 3 comes in the Stayers’ Hurdle where he rides former Cheltenham Festival winner Klassical Dream. He won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle back in 2019 under jockey Ruby Walsh, and has some reasonable Cheltenham form to back up that win.
He has a win and two second sin his last three runs so is in good form, and looks to be yet another strong chance for Townend on Day 3 here to pick up yet another winner at the Cheltenham Festival.
LOT OF JOY (Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle – 16.50): @ 6/1 with BetUK
The Irish jockey’s fourth and final run on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival comes in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Townend is given the ride aboard Lot Of Joy, who is the second favourite behind Luccia to win this Grade 2 over the jumps.
He won last time out at Fairyhouse under the ride of Paul Townend by a comfortably 12 lengths, so you certainly wouldn’t put it past the pair winning again here in at the Cheltenham Festival. A horse and jockey pairing that work well together.
