Matt Chapman from Paddy Power and ITV Racing fancies two horses from York this Wednesday – including the favourite in the featured race of the afternoon – the Juddmonte International Stakes at 3:35pm.

Matt Chapman York Ebor Festival Day 1 Tips (Wednesday, 23rd August 23)
1:50pm – Sky Bet & Symphony Group Stakes Heritage Handicap 5 1/2f ITV: MANILA SCOUSE @ 17/2 with BetUK
The first race for the Wednesday Matt Chapman York Ebor Festival tips sees him back Manila Scouse in the 1:50pm for trainer Tim Easterby and jockey David Allan. He is priced as a relative outsider at odds of 17/2 with the best horse racing betting sites.
Manila Scouse is much improved of late and while a mark of 86 could be a step too far, ‘Chappers’ is sticking to his guns and backing him. The lightly raced sprinter’s two recent wins have come with give in the ground, but he has a good fourth at Pontefract to his name and a second on this track on good so conditions aren’t necessarily key to the improved efforts.
He’s just getting everything together and has a great racing weight to carry of 8st 7lb. Easterby has won this twice with Hamish McGonagall and Copper Knight.
2:25pm – Tattersalls Acomb Stakes Group 3 7f ITV: COGITATE @ 3/1 with BetUK
Matt Chapman’s second tip on Wednesday at York sees him back the Charles-trained Cogitate in the 2:25pm as the 3/1 second favourite with the best live betting sites.
Cogitate looked good on debut and while it’s crazy to be adamant with lightly raced juveniles he might well be up to this for William Buick and Charlie Hills. The son of Churchill hacked up at Newbury on debut and while the form has not been boosted much by those closest to him, he could do no more than win easily and that despite swerving at the start.
Hills has taken this with a couple of decent types in Dutch Connection and Phoenix of Spain who went on to land an Irish 2000 Guineas.
3:00pm – Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes Group 2 1m4f ITV: GREGORY @ 5/4 with BetUK
Next up for Matt Chapman is Gregory in the Great Voltigeur Stakes for John & Thady Gosden. Frankie Dettori is given the ride here on the unbeaten 3-year-old who is also the 5/4 favourite here.
A disappointing turnout of just five in the field and Chapman is happy to stick with Queen’s Vase winner Gregrory. The son of Golden Horn is unbeaten in three starts and kept on well at the Royal meeting. Clearly he stays strongly and going conditions should not worry him.
3:35pm – Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series Race) Group 1 1m2f ITV: PADDINGTON @ 4/7 with BetUK
The fourth Matt Chapman tip on Wednesday at York sees him back the favourite – Paddington – in the featured race of the afternoon, the Juddmonte International Stakes. He is priced as the 4/7 overriding favourite with the best horse racing betting apps.
It’s pretty desperate there are only four runners and it’s hard not to think Paddington won’t simply go to the front and make all the running under Ryan Moore for Aidan O’Brien. The other three runners are not natural pacesetters and Paddington proved at Goodwood being in front is no problem.
Obviously this is a longer trip and he came from off the pace in the Eclipse – but if connections really believe he’s an Arc hope the mile and a quarter on the front end at this track should hold no fears.
4:10pm – Sky Bet Stayers Stakes Heritage Handicap 2m ITV: AZTEC EMPIRE (e/w) @ 6/1 with BetUK
The fifth and final Matt Chapman York Ebor Festival tip on Saturday sees him back the Andrew Blading-trained 4-year-old Aztec Empire each-way.
Aztec Empire might have been crying out for some decent ground and got it at Newbury last time when a fine third behind Sweet William. Andrew Balding’s runner kept on well that day so the trip is no issue and Oisin Murphy is up this time. Stall 6 is ideal and it’s fair to expect there still to be more to come so a fine each-way chance.
