Luton Town lost their first ever Premier League home game 2-1 to West Ham. Luton Town relegation odds now 3/10, with them priced at 50/1 to break the record set by Derby.

Despite the optimism around Kenilworth Road for their first Premier League home game, even the most die-hard of Luton Town fans would have known the task was tough. Visitors West Ham came into the game knowing a win would take them to the top of the league, for now.

Luton Town started well, using the crowd to their advantage. However, West Ham grew into the game with Lucas Paquetá looking menacing throughout. It was the Brazilian who provided the assist for the first goal. His wonderful ball found Jarrod Bowen, his header was tame but the ‘keeper made a meal of the save.

James Ward-Prowse provided a pinpoint corner late on that was met by Kurt Zouma’s head to make it 2-0. It looked like this goal had killed the game off, but Luton Town were keen to make a game of it.

Mads Andersen scored Luton Town’s first Premier League goal. Shortly after they were unlucky not to have a penalty when a VAR check decided Ward-Prowse had not handled the ball illegally.

Despite the positive result, Luton Town relegation odds places them odds on favourite to get relegated.

Luton Town relegation odds suggest they’ve got no chance to stay up this season. They would need some sort of miracle to survive this season.

Their transfer business has been different to past promoted teams. They’ve bought well, but their players are Championship quality, suggesting they’re prepared to drop this season, take the financial benefits and then look to fight for promotion again. Of course Rob Edwards would never admit this in the media.

This isn’t to say they don’t want to stay up this season, but their owners will be wary of overspending and risking their financial safety, especially given their history in the last ten years.

As well as being 3/10 to be relegated, you can also get prices of 50/1 on Luton Town to record fewer points than Derby County’s 2007-08 tally of 11.
