Liverpool Plot Double Summer Centre-Back Swoop to Shore Up Leaky Defence

Fresh Liverpool transfer news this morning indicates the club’s eagerness to clad the defence with new additions this summer, after their stuttering season has already seen them concede more goals than last term.

Jurgen Klopp has often struggled to find his best centre-back partnership this season, particularly with Virgil Van Dijk experiencing a steep drop off in form, while Ibrahima Konate has suffered several injury setbacks.

The Reds have found it difficult to string consistent clean sheets together in a somewhat uncharacteristically flat season, and on many occasions have been dug out of trouble by red-hot goalkeeper Alisson.

With both Joel Matip and Joe Gomez also registering disastrous performances and offering little strength in depth, reports suggest Liverpool are already turning their attention to market opportunities in the summer window.

The first name on the list, and perhaps the more realistic option, is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan Ndicka. Remarkably similar to his compatriot and Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, the 23-year-old is both imposing and quick on his feet, which has turned the heads of Europe’s elite clubs.

Better yet, he has already entered the final six months of his contract with the German club, and Liverpool’s well-documented policy to find value in players as opposed to splashing large sums could make him a near-perfect option.

However, the club may need to take more drastic measures should they miss out on Champions League qualification, and the other name circling the papers this morning is Napoli’s Kim Min-jae.

The South Korean international only made the switch to Italy from Fenerbache last year, so the Seria A leaders would undoubtedly command a fee in excess of £60m.

The 26-year-old may not garner as much attention as Napoli’s rampant attacking unit, but he has been one of the reasons why they find themselves 19 points clear and in the Champions League last eight for the first time ever.

Standing at six-foot-four, his robust, no-nonsense style is exactly what Liverpool’s defensive line needs, but combine that with the 28 shot-creating actions in his 26 appearances so far, he is certainly the best of both worlds.
