Tuesday evening saw the confirmation of Liverpool ‘cooling’ their interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, per Paul Joyce.

It comes a major blow for Reds fans, who had believed that Bellingham would be the marquee signing in the club’s summer midfield rebuild.

But according to reports, that won’t be happening any time soon. Jurgen Klopp is now said to be prioritising a move for Chelsea‘s Mason Mount, according the the Liverpool Echo.

Mount has been a reported target for Liverpool for several months, but now the Anfield outfit look set to ramp up their interest in the England international.

The 24-year-old has been far from his best at Stamford Bridge this season under Graham Potter and struggled to get a good run of starts, albeit partly due to injury.

In 32 appearances for the Blues this season, Mount has scored just three goals, as well as providing six assists.

Chelsea and Mount have also struggled to come to an agreement over a contract extension.

With his current deal ending in just over 12 months, the Blues reportedly want to tie him down to a whopping seven-year contract.

Mount and his representatives however, want a shorter contract to allow more room to negotiate in the future.

If a deal isn’t struck ahead of the summer, it has been reported that the Blues would be open to parting ways with the Cobham graduate.

Klopp, who is said to be a huge admirer of Mount, could provide him with an exit. This comes as Liverpool search for options to bolster their midfield.

They are likely to face some stiff competition in the race for his signature though. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also reportedly looking to strike a deal for Mount.
