Lingfield Tips For ITV Racing On Sunday: Including Surrey National
The ITV Racing team have had their backs to the walls this week with the cold weather causing havoc for the horse racing fixtures around Britain.
However, the good news is that temperatures are expected to warm up a tad on Sunday and with that the popular Lingfield Winter Million jumping card is hopeful of getting the all-clear to race.
There are FIVE ITV races scheduled at the Surrey track that include the Surrey National (3:35pm) and the Fleur De Lys Chase (3:00pm), where we see the return of the classing staying chaser L’Homme Presse.
See below Andy Newton’s Lingfield tips for the five LIVE ITV races, plus also see the key Lingfield trends and trainer stats here.

Just the five heading to post for the opening ITV race but it looks a tight renewal with them all having claims. Pembroke and Master Chewy won well last time out, while Matata and JPR One have the back form to have their supporters too. But it’s hard to get away from the fast-improving DJELO, who has won his last three.
This Venetia Williams runner was super-impressive last time out at Ascot, when taking a Grade Two by 6 lengths and with that coming over 2m 3f we know he’ll be fine here in softer conditions. Williams also boasts a decent 29% SR at the track with her chasers and jockey Charlie Deutsch an even better 38%.

Similar to the last race with only six runners this time – but, again, they all have claims. Irish runner The King Of Prs has won his last three and off a light weight would be dangerous but it’s hard to translate his form. Other course winners Triple Trade and First Flow have acted well here before but the former is now aged 12 and hasn’t won since 2021.
The 2022 winner of the race Frero Banbou is a big player too, but he seems to be placed more other than not these days – rather than win.
So that leaves us with SAINT SEGAL, for the in-form Jane Williams yard. He was in the process of running a massive race last time at Ascot until falling two out. Connection have given him two months to get over that run and is taken to make amends off just a 3lb higher mark.

The three recent winners in the field – Nurse Susan, Moka De Vassey and Classic Concorde – all come into the race in fine fettle and should not be far away. Ramo and Angels Breath are considered too, while Gowel Road will like the ground.
However, the Nico de Boinville-ridden BOLD ENDEAVOUR is the call, despite having a big burden of 12st here. This Henderson runner has a consistent profile and ran another top race last time (2nd) at Cheltenham considering the jockey (Freddie Gordon) also dropped his whip late on.
From 10 runs over hurdles has hit the top three seven times (2 wins) and Nico, who is back from a broken collar bone here, has a decent record in the 8 year-old too -1-1-2-5-2-3.

L’HOMME PRESSE is the headline act on the Sunday Winter Million card and if returning at his best will be very hard to beat. This high-class Venetia Williams chaser was last seen unseating Charlie Deutsch in the 2022 King George VI Chase at Kempton and has had a few setbacks since.
But he’s still only 9 years-old and this looks a great race to get him back going. He’s also got a top record fresh, having won in the past from 773, 223 and 232 day breaks.

Stamina will be needed in bucket loads here for the Surrey National over 3m5f, so proven distance winner Notachance has this as a plus.
Hold That Taught and Movethechains are also course winners and have form over the extreme trips, while Not Sure, O’Connell and the 7 year-old Regal Blue have claims. But this is a race that we’ve only seen four past runnings and no winning favourite yet. 75% of those winners have also been aged 9+ and carried 11-3+ too.
So, one horse that stands out is the Ben Case topweight FERN HILL (e/w). Yes, having 12st to carry won’t be easy but he’s got this burden for a reason – he’s the best horse in the race, based on the ratings.
He was last seen running Nassalam to 6 1/4 lengths in the Welsh National Trial at Chepstow last month and the form of that run got a shot in the arm with the winner taking the main even over the festive period. He’ll be ridden by the experienced Daryl Jacob has also been dropped a pound and had a wind op since.
