Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Wednesday: 8:30pm Kempton – UTHER PENDRAGON

The Stan Moore-trained UTHER PENDRAGON is a proven CD winner at Kempton and is in a poor 0-50 Classified Stakes race here, which will make him popular with the best UK horse racing betting sites.

But, at the age of nine, there are signs he’s on a slight decline now in what will be his 112th career race. Of those outings he’s won seven times, with only three coming on the AW (from 43 runs), which equates to just a 7% return.

The horse is also nine races without a win and has recorded just one success in his last 22 races.

However, the biggest negative of the lot is that the horse bled from the nose when last seen in action at Chelmsford earlier this month. As a result he finished a well beaten 6th (of 9) with the jockey that day David Probert reporting that the horse ‘stopped quickly’.

Yes, the fact the Moore team are running the horse again fairly quickly suggests he’s okay, but this is still not ideal and could easily raise it’s head again during the race.

All-in-all, Uther Pendragon would have a leading chance on his best form in a dire affair, but with only one success in his last 22, plus the bleeding nose issue from his last race sound some alarm bells and at the prices I’m happy to look elsewhere for the winner.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.

With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.

This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.

For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.

If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).

See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.

You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
