Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Thursday: 2:15pm Wincanton – BRAVE JEN

With BRAVE JEN being trained by a certain Nicky Henderson then she’s going to catch the eye of punters here.

But this mare looks worth taking on based on several factors that include her not winning a race yet. She’s 0-from-6 to date and even though she was pulled up and highly-tried in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle last time, she still didn’t jump well that day.

Of course, this drop in class will be more to her liking and the time before she was second in a Listed Mares’ Hurdle at Newbury too. However, that good run also came over 2m 1/2f and so the big hike up in trip here to 2m 5 1/5f here is a bit of an unknown.

The other slight worry is the form of the Hendo camp. At the time of writing, they’ve had only five winners from their last 50, plus are just an average 5-from-34 with their hurdlers at Wincanton.

In contrast, trainer Paul Nicholls loves having winners at one of his local tracks and has a 29% SR with this hurdlers here.

Oh, and it’s also interesting he’s also won this prize four times since 2014 – including 12 months ago. He runs Larchmont Lass here.

Overall, it’s a race that Brave Jen can be expected to run a lot better in, but she still remains a horse that has been unplaced in five of her six starts and has a bit to answer. The value could be elsewhere.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.

With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.

This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.

For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.

If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).

See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.

You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
