Educator Will Be First Runner For The King In Royal Silks
The William Haggas-trained Educator @ 9/10 with 888Sport will be the first horse to sport the royal colours since the death of the Queen earlier this month and will run in the same famous silks that saw her Estimate win the 2013 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot – but now at ‘The King’ as his owner.
Royal trainer Haggas also attended the Queen’s funeral on Monday 19th Sept at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, along with several other well-known figures from the world of horse racing.
Educator will run in the 4:54 at Salisbury today (Thursday 29th Sept) and face just three other rivals. The 3 year-old was a one-time Epsom Derby will be a popular pick to up the gold medal too after winning his last two races in decent fashion and looks a colt with more in the locker.
He was last seen back in April winning at Newmarket – winning by a nose over the same 1m2f trip that he’ll tackle at Salisbury on Thursday.
The Deep Impact colt will be the first horse to been seen on the track in the royal colours since Improvise was beaten a short-head at Epsom racecourse on September 8th, the same day the Queen died.
Tom Marquand Will Ride Educator
Educator was ridden by Tom Marquand last time and will be getting the leg-up on the horse this Thursday too – he added to Sky Sports, ahead of his first ride for The King “a moment to cherish”. “Hopefully we can get off to a good start,”
Jeremy Martin Salisbury manager and clerk of the course told the Racing Post he’s “extremely exciting. We feel honoured that the King will have his first runner here and it’s extremely exciting, Hopefully he will be able to carry on the success that the late Queen had at the course.
“At our last race meeting, the Queen had one of her final winners when a promising two-year-old called Circle Of Fire won and it was rare for a year to go past without a royal winner. The best of those, of course, was Estimate in a maiden the year she won the Queen’s Vase and the year before she won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.”

King Charles III Will Hoping To Carry On The Recent Good Times
The Queen had sent out 126 winners since 2018 in her colours and last year, while she had her most successful year when it came to the number of winners. She fired in 36 winners and amassed £584,399 in total prize money in the process.
This season, the Andrew Balding-trained King’s Lynn’s was one of her big successes after taking the Group 2 Temple Stakes in May at Haydock the most high profile of her 20 victories in 2022, with Love Affairs being her final winner on September 6th.
